REVIEW:
Stocking
of the 30-peg match lake was completed in 2000. With a
final stocking rate of 200lb per peg the venue is simply
bursting with fish. Catches have indicated that you
should be looking to bag anything from 20lb to 100lb in
the warmer months.
Whilst
a variety of tactics will score, it is really the
ultimate Method Feeder water and this style of angling is
perfect for the huge head of carp in the fishery. The
majority of the fish are in the 3 to 7lb range but there
is an excellent head of doubles too and the largest fish
are now well over 15lb.
Bait
wise, flavoured meat is the number one choice but corn
and big bunches of maggots also score well. Any of the
standard Method Mix groundbaits will work.
There
is a height restriction gate at the entrance. Big vans
are not advisable
RULES:
- Barbed Hooks only
- Conservation type
Keepnets with a sacking or fine weave bottom
- No Bloodworm or Joker

REVIEW:
This 65 acre fishery is situated near the picturesque
village of Byfield, Northamptonshire in a pleasant rural setting, just
ten minutes from Daventry. Boddington is now extremely popular,
especially amongst match anglers. Booking well in advance is strongly
advised. If you are a pleasure angler seeking a quiet but productive
mid-week venue or a match angler looking for a winning bag of 100lbs to
150lbs where every angler is virtually guaranteed to weigh in with 70lbs
and the match record currently stands at an incredible 650lbs -
Boddington Reservoir between Southam and Banbury is the place for you!
This pleasant rural reservoir set in rolling Northamptonshire
countryside has to be one of British Waterway’s most promising fisheries
- and it is living up to those promises with big nets being taken by
pleasure and match angler alike. The fishing is so prolific that catches
of 100lbs come from virtually anywhere on the water, the match record
having been broken in May 2007 when Southampton angler Dave Pervin took
630lbs in a six-hour match. Boddington is stocked predominantly with
mirrors and commons which now run into double figures and average around
5lbs to 6lbs, plus good heads of tench to 5lbs, perch to 12oz, roach to
1lb and pike to over 30lbs. Indeed, this is one venue where you can be
virtually assured of a good day and will want to go back to time and
time again. The facilities were improved over the 2006/2007 winter with
the construction of more than 80 concrete angling steps which were built
into the stonework facing of the reservoir. These give anglers a more
even and stable surface from which to fish and, with improvements to the
walkway down the right hand side of the reservoir, have greatly improved
access to the waterside. At the same time the car park on the right hand
bank was extended to create a further 40 parking spaces and a special
wheelchair-friendly peg with its own parking space built at the other
end of the northern dam wall. Anglers should note that they should not
park on the road running past the entrance to the fishery as the police
have been very hot in 2007 to book drivers for obstructing the main
carriageway.
The greatly improved walkway. The water is open and fairly large at some
65 acres in all. In 1998 it was partially drained to enable netting to
be carried out and a large number of the bream and roach were
transferred to nearby Clattercote Reservoir. When the water levels
returned some 50,000 half-pound mirrors and commons were introduced.
These have already reached double figures and and are making Boddington
a superb venue which is already chasing on the heels as a match venue to
rival its British Waterways neighbours Drayton and Clattercote
reservoirs.
RULES:
- Two Keepnets are
required. 15 fish only in
each net.
- Never place keepnets
on rocks
- Barbless hooks only-maximum
size 10
- No braid is permitted
as hooklength
- All carp and tench

REVIEW:
In common with nearby Drayton Reservoir, British
Waterways’ Clattercote Reservoir is unusual in that it is almost
completely surrounded by a modern wooden walkway which leads to 122
individual jetty-style pegs which jut out into the water. In addition
there are a further 10 pegs on the concrete dam wall.
Whilst this may sound very artificial, it actually provides an unusually
interesting perspective on the fishery whilst giving a solid foundation
from which to fish. Indeed, British Waterways say that Clattercote is
the prettiest of all their reservoir fisheries, being lined with trees
and shrubs.
Where the walkway runs several metres from the bank, the attraction can
be even greater as you have the impression of fishing from a private
island with water and reeds behind and to either side of you and clear
water in front, although anglers should note that they are not allowed
to fish water behind the walkway.
Until the walkway was built most of the reservoir was unfishable. By
creating the walkway not only was much of the reservoir opened up for
fishing, but it also enabled most of the indigenous trees and shrubs to
be retained. Additional planting of willows and reeds have made
Clattercote even more attractive than it could otherwise have become.
Another nice thing is that, although the reservoir is usually fairly
popular at weekends particularly when matches are being held, it is
usually quiet mid-week and, with nearly 130 pegs, there is always plenty
of free space for pleasure anglers and mid-week club matches.
Although the general stamp of carp does not run as large as those in its
sibling rival Drayton Reservoir on the outskirts of Daventry,
Clattercote is not far behind. It is different from Drayton in that it
is also well stocked with tench and silver fish which, for pleasure
anglers, generally means you do not know what you are going to hook into
next.
Matches are increasingly being won with decent catches of up to 40lbs of
bream whilst the average size of individual fish is now about 2lbs,
although specimens are are weighing in at around 6lbs. The match record
currently stands at 160lbs.

fish
- Never place fish on

- Barbless hooks only-maximum
size 10

REVIEW:
All the carp from Swallow Lake have now been netted and transferred to Brook Lake.
Records are sure to tumble on Brook come the warmer
weather. Add to this the 5,000 "pasties"
introduced to Brook in 2002 plus the 1,000 carp from 1lb-8lb
this is going to be a cracking venue. Swallow has been
transformed with all silver fish. Bream to 8lb, tench to
6lb, perch to 3lb plus the thousands of roach that has
just been stocked, should keep the anglers happy all year
round.

The venue is now established as one of the most consistent fisheries in the Midlands.
The fishery is 1250 metres

REVIEW: With 30 permanent, comfortable
platforms, Woolwich Green is home to numbers of carp, tench, bream and
silver fish. Fishing well throughout the year to pole, waggler and
feeder methods makes this a productive venue for both match and pleasure
anglers, with weights regularly reaching 100lb! Stocked in 2008 with
silver fish and 800 Sutton strain carp to 3lbs.
A mini method feeder cast toward the small island was used to catch
50lb+ in January of 2009, highlighting the point that, in even the
coldest conditions, this lake will provide great sport to the thinking
angler with a sensible approach. Baits, including maggot, paste, pellet,
flavoured corn, meat and punched bread, will help you catch throughout
the year.

REVIEW:
Front Deans
Divided into Front Deans and
Back Deans but classified as one water because the two
pools lie next to each other and are identical, Deans is
really an out-and-out match water but is available to
pleasure anglers when not in use for competitions.
Front Deans offers 33 pegs
and Back Deans 31 and both pools are fully oxygenated to
ensure good year-round sport. With depths varying from
between three to four feet to the right hand side of the
pools as you look at them from the clubhouse, they both
run down to seven feet to an even bottom which is fairly
featureless to give all anglers an equal chance of
catching.
Although the average size of
the common, mirror, ghost and leather carp in the lakes
varies between 5lbs and 6lbs there are plenty of larger
fish with the biggest running to 20lbs. In addition there
are tench averaging 1lb 8oz but running to 6lbs, bream to
4lbs and averaging 1lb 8oz, barbel to 4lbs, perch to 3lbs,
roach and rudd to 2lbs, golden orfe to 2lbs, chub to 1lb
and a large head of crucians and skimmer bream to help
bulk out weights.
Once again, maggots, casters,
sweetcorn, 'Woodland Wonder' pellets and luncheon meat
are all successful baits when fished over a bed of feeder
pellets.

REVIEW:
Never leave home to go and
fish Drayton Lake without an umbrella, even in the height
of summer. Situated along side a 9 hole golf course is
maybe not the best recipe for a relaxing afternoons
fishing. There is a 20 feet high mesh fence in place
along the length of the lake, but it does not tend to
stop all of the balls which travel at horrendous speeds,
hence the umbrella for your own protection. Having said
all of that, this is a excellent little fishery, brimming
with small carp, and including specimens up to around 25lbs.
Match and pleasure bags regularly top 60lbs, with
everyone averaging around 15-20lbs, even in winter this
great little water produces lots of fish.

REVIEW: The
'Match' lake, as its name would suggest, can provide some non-stop
action, particularly in the warmer months.
Fishing at Fernhill Farm is a pleasure, most baits and methods will
produce fish, including maggot, worm, sweetcorn, meat, pellet and
boilies.

Stable
Lake is located in park land close to the Kirtlington Park Polo Club.
It has been has been purposefully designed for carp fishing. If its fun,
big bags or skills practice that you're after this is the lake for you!
This 20 peg lake with 2 large
islands which was highly stocked with carp in April 2004 with majority
of being approximately 1lb with a few over 10lb.
Feeder and waggler work although the pole is recommended. All the
most common baits - corn, pellet maggot - will produce fish.

REVIEW: This lovely little
water that is adjacent to Hunts Corner Lake has 15 swims and is due to
open for fishing on June 16th this year. Hunts Pond is a single rod
water which makes it an ideal venue for the beginner or for those that
enjoy a spot of pleasure fishing.
The pond is heavily stocked with small carp, tench and a few silver
fish. At the time of stocking the carp averaged between 1˝ - 2lb with
the majority of the tench between 1-2lb but there are some bigger
surprises in the water. We also plan to stock a few larger tench during
the summer/autumn months.
Access to Hunts Corner Pond is through the main Oxlease gate which is
locked at night. As with Oxlease and Hunts Corner Lake anyone arriving
during lock up times must wait on the Hardwick/Brasenose track at the
main site until the gates are unlocked by 8am.
